You can do many things to stop sugar cravings.
You can eat more protein (but don't overdo it ) - try eating a small handful of almonds (skins on) when you want something sweet.
Also when you just can't stand it, I would keep the odd can of diet coke around (although aspartame is bad for you) some people think the sugar substitute Splenda (sucralose) which is made from sugar itself but has a fraction of the calories is better.
You can cook with Splenda so can make sweet things.
